The United States Post office will remain open in City of Socorro

“This is just what we wanted. We worked hard to get the Postal Service to realize their value to our community and even if it’s a few hours less a week we’ll have the post office open in the City of Socorro.” Willie Madrid-City Council Representative at Large, City of Socorro.

Some of the 4,000 full-time employees including those in the City of Socorro will see their hours reduced to part-time, but will retain their benefits. However, post offices that will be impacted by the plan account for less than one-eighth of the 5 billion dollars the Post Office spends each year on operating post offices.

“The post office in the City of Socorro was one of 800 post offices to be closed under the plan they announced last summer, since then our community has stepped up, signing petitions and even rallying with lawmakers in front of the Post Office on North Loop in the City of Socorro.”-Gloria Rodriguez, City Council District 2 Representative, City of Socorro

Even though many post offices will have vastly reduced operating hours, people will still be able to access their P.O. boxes all day. More details are expected in the next few days.

Our Park will open this summer!

The Playgrounds are going up and the retention pond is taking shape. In other words “it’s beginning to look like Bull Dog Championship Park!” Progress is moving along on Bufford as the City of Socorro’s premier park is still set for a summer opening.

Representative Mary Garcia, City of Socorro City Council District 3 personally inspected the progress of the monument centerpiece with artist Donna Dobberfuhl and City Council At-Large Representative Willie Madrid.

La representante Mary Garcia, Consejera del Tercer Distrito de la Ciudad de Socorro personalmente inspecciono el progreso  del monumento junto con la artista Donna Dobberfuhl y el Consejero de Distrito Willie Madrid.
