The biggest Fiesta in the City of Socorro history to celebrate it’s the 165th Anniversary!  WAS A HIT!  We had three days of Music, Food, Dancing and the three biggest Fireworks Display in the City of Socorro’s History!  The Consul General of Mexico was the featured guest along with Charros and the Escaramuza Juvenil and Reinas de Crebol. Live bands from all over the Southwest including Everyday People, Phat Soul and Los Allegres del Valle put on great shows. On Friday we had bands  from our own schools showcasing the Youth of the Valley. This years the Anniversary landed on the 151st Anniversary of “Cinco de Mayo,” so on Sunday we enjoyed “Noche Mexicana” and the Consul General of Mexico delivered a message on the Battle of Puebla along with Matachines, and even some of the area’s best Jazz Musicians. We celebrated with a firework specticle to LIVE  Mariachi! Once again IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE IN SOCORRO!

City Council Representative at Large Willie Madrid,Jr. spearheaded the effort to get a bus running from The Rio Vista Community Center to the University of Texas at El Paso campus and back home again Monday, Wednesday and Friday @ eight different times. Construction has started and the newest City of Socorro Park is taking shape. You can see the Park’s features  taking shape and soon you’ll see the pavilions going up as your City Leaders plan out a better quality of life for all of us.


City of Socorro’s First Modern Era Fire Chief is “On Duty”
Jim Langborg and his family have moved to the City of Socorro and is at his desk as Fire Chief.  And at the January 3rd City Council Meeting Chief Lanborg was also appointed to the El Paso County 9-1-1 Board. City Council Approves Legal Action Against the El Paso County Sherriff Richard Wiles. City of Socorro City Council authorized the City Manager to hire an attorney to take legal action against the El Paso County Sherriff, Richard Wiles and El Paso County sheriff deputies; Sgt. Jose Kluge, Oscar Martinez, and Tim Cook on behalf of the City of Socorro, it’s officials and employees including City of Socorro Police officers for harassment, official oppression, abuse of process, unlawful search and seizure, Violation of Civil Rights, and to recover original financial records and property of the City of Socorro, and to recover expenses incurred by the City of Socorro. And at the same time passed another resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit a complaint to the American Civil Liberties Union and to ask for a complete investigation by the Texas Attorney General regarding harassment, Violation of Civil Rights, Unlawful Search and Seizure, Official Oppression and Abusive Process by the El Paso Sherriff’s Department directed toward the City of Socorro Officials, Employees, and the City of Socorro Police Officers. And City of Socorro’s Election changes in complete compliance. The United States Department of Justice and the United States Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights has approved the 2008 City of Socorro Charter Amendments that changes the election process in the City of Socorro and approves the December 2011 Ordinance/Resolution changing the City of Socorro election date from May to November and extending the city council members terms of office.
Your Council on a MISSION…
Your City Council is improving the quality of life nearly everyday! Now, after years of neglect, we have a new 160ft well and pump going in to Moon City Park! Bull Dog Championship Park hosted the 165th Anniversary of the City of Socorro with the largest Fireworks display in the history of the City of Socorro. Now the new Mauro Rosas Park plans is being built. The 4th phase of Driveways is finished! More than 700 City of Socorro homes have new driveways, and eventually every home will get one. Public Works is in the middle of re-paving our streets. The City of Socorro can be proud that their City Council fought for the safety and integrity of our citizens when they prevented the largest illegal waste water dumping case in city history! And now Chief Jim Langborg emerged from 5 finalists in a nation-wide search for the new City of Socorro Fire Department! Our City of Socorro Police Department has arrested 11 of our last 12 Socorro Most Wanted Criminals and our Municipal Court has more than doubled the number of warrants they've executed! And the 2012 Budget is LOWER than the budget in 2010! Now more than ever...Everyday is a great day to be from the City of Socorro!
